Outlook 2011 to Windows Live Mail Conversion – Resolved
I was going through your comments on my previous post last week, and my eye caught a particular email. The commenter had said –
“I recently bought a windows PC and installed Windows Live Mail to it. I still use my Mac, but I am thinking of using Windows for all my email related work. There is one problem. My emails from last two years are in Outlook 2011, and I need all that in Windows Live Mail. Is that possible if I can bring all my emails here, without modifying the content in any way? I am not sure if I can do that without corrupting the data since Outlook 2011 and Windows Live mail are for completely two operating systems? If anyone has got any suggestions, I am all years.”
This emails caught my attention because there is a logic in it that seems legit. Outlook 2011 and Windows Live Mail are both for Mac and Windows, respectively. So it seems reasonable that moving the content from one to other would be terribly complicated and long, if at all possible.
But the good news is that there is a solution, and it works tremendously well. That was the reason I thought of posting this solution here, because I imagine many others would be asking this same question without any clue to the answers.
The two best things about Windows Live client that I like is that it is free and that it supports Eml files completely. It can open, edit, save, create, import, export and print Eml files. And since Eml file is a hugely popular format for both windows and Mac applications, it opens a small ‘window’ (no pun intended) to bring the data from the Mac world to Windows world. What we have to find is a converter application that can convert Outlook 2011 content to Eml files, and then we can import those Eml files to Windows Live Mail.
The another good news is that I know of one such converter application that can do it better than any other application. It is very conveniently called “Olm Extractor Pro” since it extracts the Olm files (Outlook 2011 for Mac file format) to many file formats, one of which is also Eml.
So, there you go. All you have to do is download “Olm extractor Pro”, open it, load your Olm files, choose the folders you want to convert to Eml, choose the output format as Eml (from many other formats that are available) and click “convert”.
This will generate Eml files in quick time, and then you can import these Eml files to Windows Live Mail.
The best quality of “Olm Extractor Pro” I found is its accuracy. It is difficult to extract all the data from Olm files and then implement into Eml files, but this tool does it well. All the attachments, images, and any other element that are originally associated with Olm files will still be preserved with Eml files.
- It also supports non-English content
- Other formats include Apple Mail, Entourage, Thunderbird, RGE, and Mbox format
- It allows you to save read/unread emails in separate folders after the conversion
- It also converts contacts to Vcf file, and allows you to merge all contacts from one folder to a single Vcf file
- It also converts calendar data to Ics file and allows you to merge all calendar data from one folder to a single Ics file
- The speed of conversion is super fast, able to convert 1GB of Olm files within 15 minutes or less
- Batch conversion of Olm files supported, you can choose more than one Olm file at a time
I think I have suggested the best solution to the best of my ability. To the person who posted this question on comments section last week, I hope you’ve got your answer.
Give this tool a try. The free version can be downloaded here.
